Print this list and have the child name each letter as quickly as possible reading the list in the "normal" way. 

Time how long it takes and make a note of errors.
 
Now do exactly the same thing, only having the child hold the page UPSIDE DOWN. If the child does better upside down, s/he is probably Visual Dyslexic. Try some simple text next reading upside down. You may be surprised.
*note: Some people read better sideways on a 90 degree angle. Be sure to try it both 90 degrees to the right and 90 degrees to the left.
